Dennis Nelson has over thirty five years of financial and administrative experience in industry and public accounting. He is the owner of Nelson Chartered, a public accounting firm that he founded in 1991. Nelson Chartered provides consulting, tax and accounting services for small to medium sized businesses.

Dennis Nelson, CPA Background and Experience
From 1981 to 1991, he was Corporate Controller, Chief Accounting Officer and Chief Financial Officer for Sahara Resorts (formerly Hacienda Resorts) and Sahara Casino Partners, L.P. of Las Vegas. He was responsible for all financial functions of this publicly traded corporation and the publicly traded master limited partnership that it controlled, including supervision of the accounting, control and cashier departments at the Sahara, Hacienda and Santa Fe Hotels and Casinos in Las Vegas and the Pioneer Hotel and Casino in Laughlin, Nevada. These responsibilities included all SEC reporting for the corporation, the partnership and several registered subsidiaries, cash management and capital and business acquisition activities. During his tenure, the companies completed several major capital acquisitions with SEC registrations, participated in a successful $120 million hotel casino acquisition and controlled a $130 million construction/renovation project. In addition, Mr. Nelson was responsible for developing all internal control systems and financial reporting procedures as well as the hiring and training of all of the financial staff for the Pioneer Hotel and Casino and the Santa Fe Hotel and Casino, which were acquired or developed during his administration. He has written and implemented several systems of internal control, accounting systems and procedural manuals.
Prior to becoming involved in the gaming industry, Mr. Nelson worked as a staff accountant for a public accounting firm in Minnesota that specialized in auditing financial institutions.
Mr. Nelson holds a bachelor of science degree from the University of Minnesota with an accounting and finance major and a bachelor of arts degree from Bemidji State University in mathematics. He is licensed to practice by the Minnesota (currently inactive) and Nevada State Boards of Accountancy, and is a member of the American Institute of CPAs and the Nevada Society of CPAs.
